sanctuary choir

The sanctuary choir performs at our 10:30am traditional service as well as the blended service.  The choir is supplemented with scholarship students from local universities.  The choir takes a break during the summer months, when a more informal music program takes it place.  If you would like to participate, please speak with our choir director or contact the church office.

coffee hour

LAUMC needs volunteers each Sunday to host our Church Coffee Hour, a wonderful time of fellowship that can also help raise funds for any of the mission projects the church is supporting. All supplies are provided and hosting includes setting up, making coffee, serving, and cleaning up. It’s a meaningful way to serve both the church and support our mission outreach.

blended service fellowship time

Throughout the year, LAUMC hosts special fellowship gatherings—usually centered around a shared meal—to bring our two worship services together. These events are a wonderful opportunity to break bread, build community, and make new friends. Want to help make these gatherings happen? We are always looking for volunteers to assist with event planning, setup, and cleanup. 

worship band

The worship band plays at our 9am contemporary service and at our monthly blended services.  If you have a special musical talent and would like to participate, please contact our band leader or the church office.

bell choir

The bell choir performs periodically at our 10:30am Traditional service. Come be part of this group and work together to create beautiful, uplifting music for worship and special services using both handbells and chimes. No prior experience is needed; just a willingness to learn, listen and make music together.

worship service

There are many meaningful ways to serve during our worship service. Volunteers are invited to help as ushers, readers, or by serving communion. Whether you are assisting worshippers, sharing Scripture, or helping at the Lord’s Table, your service creates a warm and faithful worship experience for everyone. If you feel called to serve, please contact the church office or speak with a worship leader to learn more.

Caring Community Team Ministry

The Caring Community team is made up of LAUMC volunteers whose purpose is to share God’s love with those in need; be they ill, grieving, homebound, elderly and/or disabled. God’s love takes the form of cards, letters, phone calls, baked goods, or scrip gift cards, to name a few.

manna bags

Manna Bags are a small portable zip lock care package containing essential items such as non-perishable food, water and everyday hygiene items for unhoused people. Examples include: travel size versions of hand sanitizers, toothpaste, toothbrushes, water, granola bars, and socks. The bags are available to take, and keep on hand, (in your car as an example) and then given out to someone in need. The Manna Bag cart of supplies is located in Heritage Hall. Donations are always welcome and can be dropped off at the cart

st. lukes homeless meal

This volunteer team serves with various other organizations in partnership with St. Luke’s Episcopal Church to help the homeless and hungry in downtown Long Beach. The outreach  provides meals, showers, clean clothes, dental and podiatry care, haircuts and help in finding housing. LAUMC has faithfully provided a monthly meal on the second Saturday of each month for over 45 years. This mission is made possible primarily by generous donations from the congregation and our volunteers who help prepare and serve the meal each month. Donations and volunteers are always welcome and much appreciated.

door of faith orphanage

For over 25 years the Door of Faith Orphanage, located in Baja California, has provided a home for approximately 80 orphaned children. LAUMC has supported this mission for many years by conducting an annual “Peanut Butter Drive” collecting donations of peanut butter to send to the orphanage and the “Adopt a Child” program to provide gifts for the children for Christmas.

habitat for humanity

Through this non-profit housing ministry, communities are strengthened. Volunteers help build permanent housing for qualifying families to purchase. LAUMC is part of a city-wide faith coalition to support building new homes and rehab existing homes in the Washington Neighborhood and other areas in Long Beach. Volunteers can assist with build days, provide lunch for the volunteers, advocate for housing issues and pray for Habitat volunteers, staff and partner families.

crop walk

CROP Walks are the hunger fundraising arm of Church World Service (CWS) and walks take place all over the country during the year. The Long Beach walk, hosted by LAUMC is sponsored by the South Coast Interfaith Council and has been around for over 50 years. The money raised helps the needy overseas, but also domestically. Twenty-five percent of the money raised in the Long Beach stays here, to benefit local hunger-relief nonprofits. You can participate by getting sponsors and walking the 5K route. You can also donate or be a volunteer on walk day. Event typically takes place in October.

grace in the park ministry

Each month the LAUMC Grace in the Park crew serves about 50 to 60 impoverished people who live nearby in shelters, subsidized apartments, vehicles or tents. Volunteers distribute items such as mesh laundry bags, men’s and women’s clothes, shoes, sweaters, shoes, socks, flashlights, water, oranges, toilet paper, paper towels and hygiene kits.  Also, dog and cat food are typically donated.  The location is at Drake Park in Long Beach.  Communion and lunch are also offered. alternative christmas

This Market is all about making your Christmas gift‑giving more meaningful—choosing gifts that help others build independence and hope.  A variety of Fair Trade vendors are on hand selling one-of-a-kind gifts that help farmers and artisans receive fair wages and reduce poverty.  You’ll also find opportunities to support meaningful mission projects, including Habitat for Humanity, Heifer Project International, Long Beach homeless programs, and many others.  Traditionally held on a Sunday morning in November, the event is free and open to the public. We invite you to come shop, connect, and make a difference.

vine & branch landscaping team

The Vine & Branch Landscape Team is a group of LAUMC volunteers who meet one or two Saturday mornings a month throughout the year to take care of the landscape needs for the church campus.  Volunteers typically are needed for the following tasks: mowing, edging, blowing/raking, trimming, weeding, watering, pruning, and other landscape special projects that arise.  Contact the church office to get involved.

campus maintenance

Are you handy with repairs and/or maintenance? LAUMC volunteers are needed to help with campus maintenance and repairs on occasion.  Contact the church office to find out how you can help serve in this capacity.

The church couldn’t run without the many dedicated volunteers who help serve on various committees and teams throughout the year, or for short term assignments.
