Lynn Atkins

Lynn Gary Atkins, Jr. is the Director of Choral Music at Los Altos United Methodist Church. A native of Red Bank, New Jersey; he received his Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Westminster Choir College of Rider University in Princeton, New Jersey. He went on to earn his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, as part of the program's first graduating cohort.


Over the course of his career, Lynn has built a national reputation as a music educator, choral conductor, and professional singer focusing on sacred music of traditional and contemporary styles. He has directed sacred music programs at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Trenton, New Jersey; Morristown United Methodist Church in Morristown, New Jersey; Elkton United Methodist Church in Elkton, Virginia; and Faith United Methodist Church in Torrance, California. He currently serves as Associate Professor of Music, Director of Choral Activities, and Voice Area Coordinator at California State University, Dominguez Hills, in Carson, California, and as Artistic Director of the L. A. Bronze Handbell Ensemble in Los Angeles.


Lynn believes music has the power to bring people together and to help a community grow in faith through shared song. He's grateful for the chance to bring that belief to the choir and congregation at Los Altos. Outside of church and the classroom, Lynn is a devoted New York Yankees fan and loves nothing more than a day at the beach.
