Pastor Letter

Easter greetings church family,

As we continue in the church season of Easter, I want to share with you how our youth ministries are living out our joy in the resurrection of Christ. We are serving as Jesus taught us in John 21:17:

And he [Peter] said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus
said to him, “Feed my sheep.”

This month, our youth ministries together with the Los Altos UMC Service Team held two #SaturdaysofService. On these Saturdays, groups of youth led by parents and service team members went out all over Long Beach to serve. We are deeply grateful to Service Team member and Youth Parent, Bob Carpenter, who organized our work together.

Bob shared the following words of celebration at the close of this servant ministry:

I want to thank each and every one of you for your support either physically or prayerfully.
We had a very successful two weeks of service! Our wonderful church family has donated
$645 to the “Imagine No Malaria” cause that we are working for. All told, our youth and
support team worked about 70 hours over the last two Saturdays. We provided support
both days at the Broken Loaf Food Pantry and various gardening and cleaning work for 7
church families, as well as assembling and delivering 50 care packages for families in the ER
waiting room at a local hospital.

Thanks again for the support, we couldn’t have done it without you!

I offer thanks to our entire church family for supporting our youth ministries and applaud the ongoing efforts to bring together youth and adults to serve in the ways of Jesus. We have so much to learn and celebrate together.

This is how we live in the resurrection — serving, celebrating, learning and growing … and knowing that as we do, we are disciples of the risen Christ who work together crafting a better world for all of God’s creation.

Your sister in Christ,
Pastor Melinda
