Greetings brothers and sisters,
As we enter Holy Week, I find myself once again full of the joy of Jesus’
triumphant entry into Jerusalem ... and yet anticipating the cruel end of Good
Friday. I find myself excited to wave palms with God’s children of all ages
today to honor and praise Jesus the Christ. And, I find myself anxious (and a
little scared) of how we all will turn so quickly upon the loving ways of Jesus
and send him to a beggar’s death upon a cross.
How are you feeling as we enter Holy Week? How will you open your heart
(once again and yet anew) to experience the story of our Savior — here on
We have planned some meaningful ways to help the Los Altos UMC
experience Holy Week together, and I hope that you are planning to join us.
We will join in worship together on Maundy Thursday with a simple meal at
6:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. The Labyrinth will also be available to walk before
and after the meal. On Good Friday, at 7:00 p.m., our youth will be sharing a
dramatic re-telling of the Good Friday story in the Sanctuary. Both of these
worship experiences will be powerful places of joining together and
experiencing our story as God’s people one and all. And, of course, on Easter
Sunday, we will celebrate Christ’s resurrection with three uplifting and joyful
worship experiences at 8:30 a.m., 9:20 a.m., and 11:00 a.m.
All of these details are available on our website: www.LosAltosUMC.org, feel
free to share it with a friend. Also, while you are online, take a moment to “like”
our facebook page (Los Altos United Methodist Church) where we post fun
photos and moments of our church life.
As we come together during this Holy Week, let us also remember we will have
many guests among us — online and in person. So, as we have worked to
open our hearts to Christ and to declutter our lives during Lent, perhaps there
might be even more room to see and welcome all those who are yearning to
know God more fully?
Perhaps my question should really be: how are you feeling as we enter Holy
Week, and how can you share that with someone who is seeking to know?
Your sister in Christ,
Pastor Melinda T. Dodge
