Pastoral Letter

Rally Day Greetings one and all!

I am really excited for our Rally Day worship and luncheon; I hope you are, too! We have so much to celebrate in this fresh season of ministry at Los Altos UMC, and we have God's eternal "promise of a new day," to encourage, empower and inspire us. In Genesis 9, in the simple sign of a rainbow, we read of God's covenant with us that God will care for us forever. In the vast diversity of color, just like the vast diversity of creation, God offers us a beautiful promise, a covenant of care forever and ever. We are called to remember that covenant throughout our lives as God's people, and to remember that we are an integral part of the covenant. We are partners in caring for God's world, God's people.

On Rally Day Sunday, I would call us to remember God's covenant with us, but also, our covenant with God as God's people. We have been given immense gifts - tools, if you will - to build up creation, and to support, care and love one another. Today, we celebrate how the people of this community at Los Altos UMC have been doing just that for many years, and how God is calling us to the "promise of a new day," to continue the caring and supporting, and to grow into God's promise of the new day before us. How will we live into the Sunday morning transitions, growing together in exciting worship? How will we support the facilities plans to update our campus, and how will these plans work to empower the God's promise with us in this space? How will our Service Team support our call to serve as Jesus did? How will our mid-week ministry (all ages, all stages), "Everyone's Inn," help us to grow together and be God's loving community for everyone who comes? Folks have asked recently for help understanding what Wednesdays at the Inn will look like, so here's the whole schedule in one place. Starting this Wednesday, Sept. 18:

3:30- 5:30 p.m. Homework Club (elementary, middle & high school students) - (Summit)

Led by LAUMC current & retired teachers.

4 p.m. Introductory Handbell Choir (1st grade & older) - (Sanctuary) Drama Club (Fellowship Hall)

4:45 p.m. Middle School Youth Group (Summit)

5:30 p.m. GENERAL ARRIVAL! Sign in & have some fun. Games, relaxation, crafts, coffee & snacks (Big Yard)

6:15 pm Dinner $3 per person (Lounge)

6:45 p.m. Faith Sharing for the whole family (Lounge) High School Youth Group (Summit)

7:30 p.m. Praise Band Rehearsal (Fellowship Hall) Carillon Handbell Choir (Sanctuary)

8:30 p.m. Exultation Handbell Choir (Sanctuary)

Indeed, we are all born into the family of God, and at Los Altos UMC, we are hard at work helping one another know what that means and looks like. Come to our Rally Day luncheon, and learn more about the ways that our church family is living our mission. Our four Mission Groups will be there with information about what is happening, and how you can share your gifts with God's people, and help us together live into the "promise of a new day."

Your sister in Christ,

Pastor Melinda
